
Earth Science Summer: Geology Hike (AM) – Oakes Quarry Park
Join the ODNR Division of Geological Survey for an exciting day in nature as part of Earth Science Summer in celebration of America 250 and the 2026 theme of the Collaborative Summer Library Program: “Unearth a Story.”
In collaboration with the City of Fairborn Parks, geologists Mark Peter, Andy Nash, and Chris Waid will guide participants on a fascinating hike through Oakes Quarry Park. This is a fantastic opportunity to delve into Ohio’s rich geologic history, explore an ancient fossil coral reef, and discover the evidence of Ice Age glaciers that once shaped the area.
🏞️ Fossil Collecting: Participants will have the chance to collect fossils during this adventure!
👟 What to Bring:
- Sturdy hiking boots
- Hiking/walking sticks
- Plenty of water and snacks
- Sunscreen and bug spray
This event is free and is recommended for ages 5 and up. Participants are encouraged to meet at the trailhead near the parking lot for a mild to moderate hike. Don’t miss out on this amazing opportunity to explore the great outdoors!
