O události

Johana Šulík Bártová’s performance A Small Movement in the Lava Field draws inspiration from the format of a travel slideshow. It is based on recordings from her trips to Iceland, where she spent time at artist residencies. Time and again, she experienced a sense of fear in the presence of the island’s unseen inhabitants: “At night, in the fog, a form could always emerge from the impenetrable cloud of the unseen. What awe and terror seized me when, while collecting small stones on the shore of Lake Mývatn, I was startled by the appearance of a huge mountain emerging from the fog in just a few seconds.”

The combination of image and narrative invites the audience to follow in Johana’s footsteps and navigate through the memories and stories with which she maps distant places. Jakub Šulík accompanies her with live musical interludes.

A Small Movement in the Lava Field is the opening piece of a series that explores the potential for artistic development of the everyday, civilian performativity we encounter in travel lectures, but also in domestic or family settings during the viewing of vacation photos. It invites an intimate, close encounter that conveys the experience of the distant.
