Play to Thrive! - The Last Dance (@ We Space)

O události

Welcome to Play to Thrive! - Herzlich willkommen!
This will be our last Impro soiree at the beautiful We Space, our Berlin home, as We Space will be closing at the end of May... So let's come together for one Last Dance - and play!
Play to Thrive! offers you a welcoming space to meet people, hang out and play.
Whether you're a total beginner, an experienced improviser or simply curious, this gathering is for anybody who wants to connect with a bunch of interesting people (yes, that’s you!) and rediscover playful flow in a community setting.
We’ll explore theatre impro games and creative exercises that help you drop into presence, meet others with openness, and express yourself more freely — no pressure, no stage, no spotlight...
✨ Play not to impress, but to explore
✨ Improvisation as a tool for growth (in awareness, courage, freedom…)
✨ A space to show up as you are, and discover what emerges within & between us.
Creative play as a rehearsal space for life - with games as mirrors to see how we currently are & experiment with who we might want to become... ein Proberaum fürs Leben!
Doors open at 19:00 with an opportunity to meet & chat over a drink.
We’ll start the active session at 19:30 until about 21:30. More time for chat afterwards.
You might just walk away feeling a little lighter, freer & more connected - and with some concrete tools to help you navigate the uncertainty of life with a bit more zest!
This session is for both English and German speakers. Wer lieber auf Deutsch reden & spielen möchte, kann das auch!
Some of our activities will be physical - please wear clothing that is comfortable for you to move in. And be prepared to work without shoes.

A bit about me:
I designed & led the Improvisation programme at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London for 19 years until 2024 when I moved to Berlin. During this time, my Impro students included Jessie Buckley (Oscar winner for Hamnet and Olivier Award winner for Cabaret in London), Cynthia Erivo (Oscar nominee for Wicked and Harriet and Tony & Emmy Awards for The Color Purple), Taron Egerton (Golden Globe winner for his portrayal of Elton John in Rocketman) and Amy Lou Wood (The White Lotus on Netflix and BAFTA winner for Sex Education).
My background is in theatre directing, making shows in an improvisational devising process. I have directed shows at leading UK theatres including the Young Vic and Soho Theatre in London, and the Traverse in Edinburgh. Two of my shows (100 and Food) won Fringe First awards at the Edinburgh Festival, followed by national and international tours.
My improvisation work was featured in a BBC documentary. One of my devised plays (100) has been selected to form part of the GCSE drama curriculum for secondary schools in the UK where it is studied alongside Twelfth Night by Shakespeare. I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) in the UK, and I was awarded a Doctorate of Professional Studies at Middlesex University in London for my dissertation The Promise - Searching for the Creative Moment in Theatre, Business and Life.
