Poulenc, known for his opera Dialogues des Carmélites performed earlier this year in Copenhagen, possesses a musical personality rich in contrasts. As a member of Les Six, a group of innovative French composers emerging after World War I, Poulenc sought a fresh musical direction: one that was clearer, lighter, and more direct compared to the lush romanticism of Richard Wagner and the ethereal soundscapes of Claude Debussy. ✨

The evening culminates with the gripping Piano Quintet by Polish composer Grażyna Bacewicz, an intense work that deserves far more recognition.
