đŁ Speaker Series: Creatorâs Garden | Birds of Anishinaabe Aki
Join Joseph Pitawanakwat, Junaid Khan, and AndrĂ©s JimĂ©nez from Creatorâs Garden for an engaging two-hour discussion followed by a guided bird walk! đŠ Discover the ecological wisdom embedded in Anishinaabemowin (Ojibwe language) bird names.
In contrast to Western science, where bird names often focus on physical traits, Anishinaabemowin emphasizes relationships, behaviors, and the significant roles that birds play in our environment. Through this lens, we will uncover valuable insights on how language shapes our understanding of birds and what these lessons mean for protecting local bird populations today and in the future.
After the discussion, participants are invited to join a guided bird walk around The Canadian Canoe Museumâs Lakefront Campus, where we will observe local bird species and explore their ecological significance. Bring your binoculars for this interactive experience! đŠ
