Speaking of Revolution: In A Different Key, A Community Conversation on Jazz with Humanities N.Y.

O události

Join us for an engaging community conversation at Snug Harbor, part of the Speaking of Revolution series organized by Humanities New York. This event invites neighbors to discuss how themes of rupture and renewal influence our civic and cultural landscape.

Each gathering kicks off with a locally chosen short reading or image to inspire open and reflective dialogue—no panels, no lectures, and no pressure to find the 'right' answers—just an opportunity to listen, share, and think together.

🌟 Opening Act: On the day of the event, talented Staten Island musician Darrell Smith will delight us with a brief musical piece to set the tone. Following that, we’ll delve into a community-led conversation grounded in a shared reading chosen collaboratively with Darrell and Snug Harbor.

As one of New York’s most historically rich boroughs, Staten Island serves as a significant backdrop to reflect on migration, memory, labor, and imagination amidst the theme of revolution, both past and present.

This community-driven program is part of By the People: Conversations Beyond 250, created in partnership with local organizations and humanities councils across the U.S., celebrating 250 years of cultural life in our nation while envisioning its future.
