About the event

BehSci meets AI hosts Roshni Lulla: When Human Darkness Meets Machine Learning
Dr. Roshni Lulla is a neuroscientist, entrepreneur, and Co-Founder & Chief Research Officer at the Institute for Humane Robotics (IHR). She recently completed her PhD in Brain & Cognitive Sciences at the University of Southern California – under renowned neuroscientists Professor Antonio Damasio and Professor Jonas Kaplan – where her research sat at the intersection of psychology, neuroimaging, and AI safety. As a graduate of NYU's Neural Sciences programme, she brings both deep scientific rigour and entrepreneurial experience across startups and industry to everything she works on.
Her research starts with a deceptively simple question: what does it look like, both neurologically and behaviourally, when empathy breaks down? She maps the Dark Triad (Machiavellianism, Narcissism, and Psychopathy) from the brain outward, and thus turns that lens onto AI: if we build models on human data and human feedback, what happens when those models absorb our most manipulative and deceptive patterns?
At IHR, she's working on the other side of that question: building the research foundation and design frameworks that ensure robots entering our homes, our families, and our children's lives are built to support human development and dignity, not undermine it.
With London Tech Week as the backdrop, we've organised an intimate in-person evening with Dr. Lulla for the BSmAI community–part talk, part open conversation.
