Build for Good Stewards: Turning Patient Challenges into Lasting Solutions (HackitRx)

How are problems discovered in the everyday, and how are prototypes shaped into actionable pilots?

Many of the most important patient and community care problems do not appear as neat problem statements. They show up quietly, in moments where people fall between systems.

But recognising a problem is only the beginning. What does it take to understand whether a need is real, whether it is worth exploring, and whether an early idea can become a solution that lasts?

This fireside chat continues the HackitRx 2026 initiative by the Pharmaceutical Society of Singapore (PSS) as part of Build for Good Stewards (BFG) Program by Open Government Products (OGP), in partnership with the Alliance of Patients’ Organizations Singapore (APOS), to build ground-up, patient-centric solutions to the gaps that matter.

Across two moderated sessions, we will explore the journey from problem discovery to solutioning and prototyping, hearing from speakers who have worked across healthcare, digital products, accessibility, design, and community-centred innovation.

Session 1: Problem Discovery
How do meaningful problems emerge, and how do we know they are worth exploring?

This session looks at how the patient and community needs first surface in everyday work. Feedback, dissatisfaction, complaints, and repeated frustrations can often point to deeper unmet needs, but not every problem is ready or viable to solve.

Together, we will unpack how teams can uncover the need behind the ask, validate problems with the people affected, challenge assumptions early, and involve stakeholders meaningfully while minimising consultation fatigue.

Session 2: Solutioning & Prototyping
How do we move from understanding a need to testing a solution, and how do we make these solutions last?

This session turns from insight to action. Once a meaningful problem has been identified, what are the checkpoints needed to move an idea into reality?

We will explore how teams prioritise ideas for testing, build early prototypes, avoid costly pitfalls, and move from pilot to sustainable impact. The conversation will also examine what helps a solution remain useful beyond its first launch, especially when serving patients and communities over time.
