About the event

We know that scaling up carbon dioxide removal (CDR) is a vital part of limiting warming in line with the Paris Agreement. There are exciting developments in the sector, but it is still nascent and faces many barriers to growth.
Drawing on insights from the UKRI-funded CO2RE programme, findings from greenhouse gas removal demonstrator projects, and the new edition of the State of Carbon Dioxide Removal report, this panel discussion will consider the latest trends in CDR, where the UK might have an edge, and what needs to happen in order for the sector to scale up. There will be time for audience questions at the end.
Speakers:
Dr Steve Smith, Arnell Associate Professor of Greenhouse Gas Removal and Executive Director of CO2RE, University of Oxford (Chair)
Georgia Berry, CDR Programme Director, Green Finance Institute
James Screen, Deputy Director, Greenhouse Gas Removals, Department for Energy Security and Net Zero
Navraj Singh Ghaleigh, Senior Lecturer, School of Law, University of Edinburgh, and CO2RE Co-lead on Governance, Legal & Ethical Factors and Lead for Equality, Diversity & Inclusion
Prof Jo House, Professor of Environmental Science and Policy, University of Bristol, and CO2RE Lead on Monitoring, Reporting & Verification and Socio-ecological Systems
Prof Colin Snape, Professor of Chemical Technologies, University of Nottingham, and Biochar Demonstrator Lead
Prof Chris Evans, peatland biogeochemist, UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (UKCEH), and GGR-Peat Demonstrator Lead
Hosts: CO2RE, State of CDR
