Chanticleer: Our American Journey - Celebrating America's 250th!

About the event

Join us for a magnificent celebration of America’s 250th year of independence! 🎉 Experience the diverse voices, songs, harmonies, and rhythms that shape our shared musical heritage. This extraordinary program will delve into the connections between traditional American hymnody and African American Spirituals through a new commission by composer Trevor Weston.

Explore the evolution of the American choral tradition, featuring everything from Black Gospel quartets and Shape-Note singing to Barbershop quartets and vocal jazz. Don’t miss the rendition of timeless American Bluegrass tunes and folk favorites like “Calling my Children Home” and “Shenandoah.” Plus, enjoy modern classics such as Queen’s “Somebody to Love” and the beloved “Home” from The Wiz.

Performing this captivating repertoire is the Grammy Award-winning vocal ensemble Chanticleer, acclaimed for its extraordinary blend and stunning vocal virtuosity. Under the direction of Music Director Tim Keeler, Chanticleer is celebrated as “breathtaking in its accuracy of intonation” by the Boston Globe. Founded in 1978 in San Francisco, this remarkable ensemble has graced stages worldwide, making it one of the most prolific recording and touring groups in history.
