Dayenu: It Would Have Been Enough, Solo Exhibition by Louise Silk

Join us for Dayenu: It Would Have Been Enough, a captivating solo exhibition by renowned Pittsburgh fiber-artist Louise Silk. Following her landmark retrospective at the Heinz History Center, this exhibition serves as a career capstone, showcasing an all-new body of work for the first time.

✨ Explore a diverse array of hand-sewn creations, including art quilts, scrap quilts, flags, kaftans, portraits, and pillows, all crafted from repurposed fabrics. By merging her own scraps with found textiles, Silk weaves together separate events and memories into a powerful visual narrative of her life.

🌟 The exhibition reflects on Silk’s spiritual journey, drawing themes from Judaism and Zen Buddhism. The title, Dayenu, translates to “It Would Have Been Enough” and comes from the Passover Seder song that expresses gratitude for the blessings bestowed upon the Jewish people. Each quilt in this collection embodies this sentiment of gratitude.

Louise Silk has dedicated over 50 years to creating art quilts and has showcased her work throughout the United States in seven solo exhibitions, including a retrospective at the Heinz History Center in 2024. Currently residing and working in the South Side, she was recently featured in the exhibition, Art of Pittsburgh’s South Side.
