Following the acclaim of Secret Byrd, director Bill Barclay returns in collaboration with The Gesualdo Six. This theatrical concert delves into Gesualdo’s turbulent legacy, marked by the infamous murder of his wife and her lover. Known for his haunting chromaticism, Gesualdo's works, including his madrigals and the Tenebrae—composed for his own funeral—serve as a poignant backdrop to this unique performance.

This performance is commissioned by The Church of St Martin-in-the-Fields for its 300th anniversary, alongside The National Centre for Early Music in York and Music Before 1800.
