BERLIN - LAGOS: Emeka Ogboh's Danfotronics
This time, Volkswagen Group Art4All is curated by Berlin-based artist Emeka Ogboh and his new project, Danfotronics.
The name and concept are inspired by the iconic yellow VW buses—known as Danfos—that dominate the streetscape in Ogboh’s hometown of Lagos. For Danfotronics, the artist is converting one of these buses into a fully functional sound system sculpture and inviting five top-tier Berlin-based musicians to spend a long afternoon sharing their own interpretations of a connection between Berlin and West Africa with the Volkswagen Group Art4All audience.
In the artist’s own words:
"You don’t just see a city. You hear it, too. In Lagos, much of daily life takes place aboard the yellow Danfo bus. This July, the Danfo will arrive at the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin—not as a mode of transportation, but as an instrument. It will carry voices, music, and recordings from Lagos, transforming into a sound installation on the museum terrace. For one afternoon, the Danfo will become a sound sculpture, bringing Lagos into dialogue with Berlin."
Line-up: Emeka Ogboh, Ghostpoet, KMRU, Jessica Ekomane, Carmen Villain
Arrangör: FREUNDE der Nationalgalerie e.V.
