The word “fact” comes from the Latin factum, which means “that which is done, finished”. It is a word for a known and verified reality, event, or result. But we aren’t always present everywhere, so we rely on reports of events (of facts that have already occurred). And this is where things get a little complicated—a report doesn’t just have to accurately capture reality, but may also contain an opinion about it. It all might sound a bit convoluted, and even though it isn’t that complicated, let’s embrace the complexity. In the massive exhibition HIT BY NEWS, we’ll find plenty of artworks that deal with reality and opinions. And often in a very playful way, so we can easily get past the initial complexity and move on to our own creation. We’ll break the news down into little pieces and letters, make sense of them, and then put them back together. For real.
