INHERITED BODIES - FIRST SOLO SHOW!!

About the event

Inherited Bodies: A Personal Journey Through Women's Health 🌿

Join us for the ‘Inherited Bodies’ exhibition, a profound semi-retrospective showcase by artist Carli Adby-Notley. This exhibition features an evocative blend of photographic, archival, and experimental pieces that delve into women's health and the narratives that shape our experiences.

Grounded in the realities of:

  • PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome)
  • POI (Premature Ovarian Insufficiency)
  • Menopause
  • Severe PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder)

‘Inherited Bodies’ challenges societal norms around what is deemed “normal” or “dysfunctional.” This collection intertwines personal and collective stories, exploring how societal and political narratives shape our relationships with ourselves and others. It addresses the lack of choice concerning our biological and cultural inheritances.

The exhibition presents personal artefacts and contemporary experiences to unearth a history where women have often been reduced to mere symptoms. Themes of maternal identity, aging, fertility, and health coexist with the reality of living as a woman, mother, and daughter.

‘Inherited Bodies’ creates a space for discussion about how gender, diagnosis, and language shape our sense of care, identity, and belonging. It's not about being 'broken,' but rather about reclaiming a sense of self and autonomy over our bodies and health through creativity, connection, and dialogue.
