About Jonathon C. Neal: As an accomplished trumpeter, composer, and bandleader based in southeast Michigan, Jonathon is currently working towards his Doctor of Musical Arts in Jazz & Contemporary Improvisation at the University of Michigan’s School of Music, Theatre & Dance. His focus centers on Black American Music as a sacred tradition, bringing a unique body-centered approach to music that emphasizes breath and listening. He also shares this philosophy in his teaching, fostering a nurturing space for students both privately and at the university.
