🌊 KA RONGO KOE KI TE WAIATA O TE KŌIWI? Can you hear the song of the bone? 🎤 Supported by Creative NZ, Gigi Crayford presents her debut EP ‘KA MUA KA MURI’. This vibrant musical journey explores the threads of Whakapapa, delving into the relationship with Atua, Pūrākau, and the transformation of learning an ancestral tongue.

🎶 Recorded on ancestrally affiliated land, Gigi's project is enriched by her whānau, blending full instrumentation with deep wells of meaning and connection. Ariana Tikao, a renowned practitioner, praises: "GiGi’s soulful voice has an ancient quality, that feels whole and embodied. A rare and potent depth."

🎭 Toni Huata, former director of SOUNZ, describes it as "Mesmerising, theatrical and soulful reo." The ‘KA MUA KA MURI EP’ weaves Taonga Pūoro, sonic storytelling, poetry, and Gigi's original folk noir style in both English and Te Reo Māori.

🎸 A multi-talented singer-songwriter, Gigi plays Autoharp, Guitar, and Piano, supported by her brother Miles Crayford on Organ, father Greg Crayford on drums, Charlie Budd on Taonga Pūoro, and Aslan Rowlands on Electric Guitar. Expect echoes of emotional lyricism reminiscent of Joni Mitchell and an enigmatic voice akin to Kate Bush, mixed with soaring moments echoing Pink Floyd.

💖 HINE reverberates with authentic expression, empowerment, and the vital role of music in healing and self-discovery. With her maiden single and a successful show at MĀORILAND ŌTAKI in 2024 for ‘KA MUA KA MURI’, HINE reflects on the grief of navigating a world steeped in matriarchy and the journey back to our earth-centered roots.

✨ This tour marks the release of the final four songs of the EP, each an ode to different Atua Māreikura including Papatūānuku, Hine Te Iwa Iwa, Murirangawhenua, Hine Moana, Hine Raukatauri, and Hine Takurua.
