Man Down Plymouth weekly mental health talking group
π¬ What is Man Down?
We are dedicated to reducing male suicides and challenging the stigma surrounding mental health by creating a supportive space for men to express their emotions. Our free, informal talking group meetings are held every Thursday evening across multiple locations in the UK.
π¬ What Happens at Man Down?
Join us every Thursday at 7 PM to share and discuss mental health in a safe, confidential environment. Throughout our sessions, we foster an atmosphere of trust and understanding, allowing members to break down barriers around discussing emotions. We also offer social meet-ups and online peer support for those who've attended a face-to-face group.
π¬ How Does the Evening Begin?
Simply arrive anytime between 6:45 PM and 7 PM. One of our facilitators will welcome you and introduce you to fellow participants. We understand how daunting it can be to step into a new setting, but rest assured, everyone is welcoming and has been in your shoes.
π¬ How Does the Meeting Play Out?
At 7 PM, weβll officially start the meeting with introductions and insights about Man Down, followed by information on social activities and online resources. Remember, this is a non-judgmental space where confidentiality is paramount.
π¬ Do I Have to Talk/Share My Experience?
Not at all! Participation is completely voluntary. You can choose to listen and absorb the discussions initially; many find that they gradually feel comfortable to share over time.
π¬ Do I Need to Notify You of My Attendance?
No, just show up on the evening!
π¬ Is There a Cost to Participate?
Nope! All sessions are free, thanks to the generous fundraising efforts and grants received by Man Down, a Community Interest Company.
π¬ What About Drinks?
Tea, coffee, and water are provided during the meetings.
π¬ Does Man Down Provide Professional Help?
While we create a supportive environment for discussing emotions, our facilitators are not psychological professionals. We focus on reducing stigma and increasing connection, but can provide information on professional services available across the UK.
π¬ I'm Struggling with My Mental Health...
If you're in distress, please seek professional help. Many participants find that being part of the group is beneficial for building a supportive network and realizing they are not alone.
π¬ Feeling Anxious About Attending?
It's perfectly normal! Many members express anxiety about their first visit but often say the experience becomes more comfortable after attending a few meetings. We are here when you're ready! π
