Old Joy

Two longtime friends set on a weekend camping trip in the Oregon woods. One has remained faithful to the freewheeling life of their youth, avoiding any decisions that can’t be taken back. The other one has settled down, and is soon to become a father. Along the way, the friends have a hard time finding topics of conversation that won’t cause tension, bringing moments of awkwardness and odd emotions for them both. In the end, they’ll either face off or find out what holds them together. The natural beauty of the countryside is underscored by Yo La Tengo’s music, while Will Oldham, a.k.a. Bonnie Prince Billy, shows his talents as a character actor in this intimate piece of cinema.
