Root Tracing Workshop, hosted by Onto

Join us for an engaging Root Tracing Workshop, organized by the media lab Onto (Vertti, Lù, and Begüm)! This workshop is part of an exciting research project in collaboration with the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI).

📍 What’s it about?
Separating roots from soil is a surprisingly complex task that often requires subjective judgement. As media artists and researchers, we're exploring the idea: Can the data labeling process for a root-recognizing AI model be considered art? Or at least, a fun activity?

🪱 Here’s what to expect:

• A brief presentation about our research project
• Various root scans to view and draw together, either using coloring pencils on paper or digitally
• Tasty cake and root-themed snacks, like liquorice
• Delicious tea 🍵

• Your own smart device (a tablet or a laptop with a mouse recommended for digital drawing)
