Teddy Conducts "Music of the Mines"

Join us for an evocative concert that explores the profound music influenced by mining communities, the stunning Appalachian landscapes, and the resilient lives of working people. This intimate program reflects the connection between experience and place through orchestral and choral works rooted in themes of labor, land, and memory.

🌟 The evening begins with Fanfare for the Common Man by Aaron Copland, a powerful celebration of human dignity and collective strength. This is followed by Carl Ruggles’ rarely performed Men and Mountains, which captures the grandeur and spirit of American landscapes.

🎼 Choral pieces by Schubert and Jean Ritchie further enrich the evening, drawing on the rich traditions of mining life and Kentucky's cultural heritage.

At the heart of the program lies Anthracite Fields by Julia Wolfe, an acclaimed classical work focusing on coal mining. This piece, created from interviews with miners and their families, offers a poignant blend of chorus, orchestra, and recorded voices, portraying the endurance of labor.

Led by Teddy Abrams and featuring the Louisville Chamber Choir, this concert promises a unique musical journey celebrating community, history, and the stories that weave the fabric of our shared experience.
