Thea's Park, Low Tide Tour with Tacoma Public Library

Join Harbor WildWatch and Tacoma Public Library for an exciting and educational beach exploration along the breathtaking shorelines of the Salish Sea! 🐚

Experienced biologists and enthusiastic volunteer naturalists will guide you on a hands-on adventure through the intertidal zone, where you'll uncover the amazing diversity of marine life thriving in our local waters.

During this engaging program, you'll:

• Learn proper beach etiquette
• Touch and examine creatures like sea stars, crabs, and sea anemones while discovering their unique adaptations
• Discuss the challenges facing our ocean ecosystems and how you can make a difference

This tour is suitable for all ages and skill levels, making it a fantastic outing for families, school groups, or anyone curious about the natural world. 🌿 Whether you're an experienced beachcomber or visiting for the first time, you will gain a deeper appreciation for the beauty and intricacies of our local marine environment.

What to Bring:

• Closed-toe shoes (rain boots, water shoes, or old sneakers)
• Water bottle and sunscreen
• Layers for changing weather
• A snack if you'd like!

Each beach walk lasts approximately 60-90 minutes, but feel free to leave when you need to.

Meeting Point:
We’ll gather near the giant globe (to the left as you face the water) at the designated start time. Look for Harbor WildWatch staff and volunteers wearing blue. If you arrive late, just find us on the beach!

Terrain Details:
There are paved steps or low-sloping paths leading to the beach. Expect a mix of sand, gravel, cobble, and occasional boulders.
