About the event

The Breath Lab: Why Does Breathwork Feel Like Psychedelics? An evening of science, breath, and shared inquiry
People who do breathwork often report something strange: vivid imagery, waves of emotion, a sense of time dissolving, even mystical or transcendent states - experiences that sound remarkably like a psychedelic journey. With no substance involved. Just breath.
Is it real? What's happening in the brain and body to produce it? And what will your nervous system do?
The Breath Lab is a new monthly gathering for curious minds - the kind of people who want to understand an experience, not just have it. Each month, we take one real question about breath, consciousness, and the nervous system. We look at what the research actually shows. We have a direct, embodied experience of it. And then we gather in a structured sharing circle to compare what we noticed - treating our own experiences as the data.
This is breathwork for people who like to think. Skeptics especially welcome.
The evening:
6:30pm - doors open
7pm - a mini-lecture (45 min) - the real neuroscience behind breathwork and altered states: the story of how modern breathwork was born from psychedelic research, what happens to your blood chemistry and brain waves, and where the psychedelic analogy holds (and where it breaks down).
8pm - a guided breathwork journey (45 min) - a full conscious connected breathwork experience, lying down, with music. Your own consciousness, investigated directly.
8.45pm - a structured reflection & sharing circle - we'll map what the group experienced, find the patterns, and explore the science that explains them.
9.30pm - closing and connection
Your host: Camilla Menin is a certified Spiritus Breathwork facilitator with over a decade of meditation and somatic practice, and a researcher with a master's in psychology - her thesis investigated how conscious connected breathwork affects emotional regulation and the nervous system.
Sliding scale - pay what feels right:
$29 - Supported rate (for those who need it; no questions asked)
$39 - Standard rate
$49 - Supporter rate (helps hold a supported spot for someone else)
No one will be turned away for lack of funds. If finances are a barrier right now and the supported rate still isn't workable, please reach out to me at camilla.ccbreathwork@gmail.com - a spot can always be made.
Please note: This practice involves intentional, intensive breathing. It's not suitable for everyone. Please review the contraindications and complete the waiver after registering. If you're pregnant, have cardiovascular conditions, epilepsy, or certain other conditions, this particular practice isn't safe for you - please reach out with questions. Full list of contraindications - https://www.camillabreathwork.com/#contraindications.
Please arrive by 6:45 at the latest, we begin promptly at 7, and latecomers can't be admitted once the lecture starts, out of respect for the group.
Spots are limited to 16 participants. Exact location shared the day before the event.
Refunds available up to 7 days before the event. After that, tickets are non-refundable but transferable - just let me know who's coming in your place.
Come skeptical. Leave curious.
