Salt, Sand & Solstice: Beach Hike

Join us for a serene beach and trail walk as we embrace the summer vibes with a hike along the scenic bluffs!

🗺️ Trail
We’ll be exploring the Sunken Meadow Trail, an easy to moderate hike of approximately 4.2 miles with some hills, featuring an elevation gain of around 400 feet. Enjoy breathtaking views of the Long Island Sound while we meander through the beautiful woods along the bluffs. 🐕 Note: No dogs allowed on this trail.

📍 Meeting Point
Location: Sunken Meadow Field 3 Parking Lot, Sunken Meadow State Park, Kings Park.
Look for us in the southeast corner of the lot near the kayak launch. Please note that parking has a fee of $8/car (NY State Empire Pass accepted). Arrive 10 minutes early to accommodate parking and gathering together. Restrooms available at the trailhead.

☕️ Post-Hike Gathering
After our hike, we’ll head to a nearby café (TBD) to refresh, share photos, and unwind. This casual meetup is optional and depends on your schedule with your carpool group.

🥾 What to Bring

• Sturdy walking shoes or hiking boots (some areas may be uneven)
• Water (no fountains available on the trail)
• Tick spray (high tick area, especially in spring)
• Snacks
• Layers (mornings can be breezy by the Sound)
• Sunscreen (some sections are open)
• Light rain jacket (coastal weather can change quickly)

🚗 Carpooling
Carpool pairings will be sent via text 48-24 hours prior to the hike. Most drivers are coming from north Brooklyn or Long Island City. Please provide your neighborhood in the RSVP for optimal pairing!

📝 Important Notes

• A vehicle fee of $8/car applies (NY State Empire Pass accepted).
• No dogs allowed on this trail.
• Cell service can be inconsistent; consider downloading the AllTrails map offline before heading out.
• The trail has sections along the bluff edge, so watch your footing and stay on the path.
• If it has rained recently, prepare for muddy sections.

Weather Policy: We hike in light rain! Cancellations will only occur in the event of dangerous conditions like severe storms or lightning. Stay tuned for updates as the date approaches.

This is a laid-back, low-pressure gathering. Come as you are and hike at your own pace. 💛
