20 Years of Permanent Vacation with Benjamin Frolich (DE), Kasper Bjorke, Prom Night

About the event

Twenty years is a long time to keep a label honest. Permanent Vacation lands at Jolene to mark two decades of Munich's most sun-drenched imprint — and they're bringing the right people to do it justice.

Since 2006, Permanent Vacation has built a catalogue that moves between cosmic disco, deep house, and everything that lives in the warm, unhurried space between the two. The label's fingerprints are on some of the most lasting records of the past two decades — releases from Todd Terje, John Talabot, Mano Le Tough, Red Axes, Fort Romeau, Perel, and a roster that reads like a map of where European electronic music found its most joyful, exploratory instincts. Tonight at Jolene, that legacy gets a proper dancefloor celebration — three selectors, one tight room, and a shared understanding of what makes a night move.

Benjamin Fröhlich is the man who co-built that catalogue. Munich-raised and deeply schooled, he came up running a record shop before helping found Permanent Vacation, and the breadth of that background shows in how he plays. His sets draw a fluid line through house, disco, and cosmic — not as genres to tick off, but as a single sensibility. Warm and hypnotic, he holds a room with patience, building momentum without ever announcing it. On a night like this, with his own label's story as the backdrop, expect something generous and close to the bone.

Kasper Bjørke brings two decades of his own to the table. The Copenhagen producer has moved through club anthems, ambient opuses, neo-classical terrain, and back again — releasing via Kompakt, Mule Musiq, Live At Robert Johnson, and his own Sensitive Records imprint, with five Panorama Bar sets and a back catalogue that stretches from disco-laced dancefloor work to Guardian-praised ambient. His 2024 album Puzzles drew praise for how naturally it crossed between intimate listening and open dancefloors, and that duality tracks in his DJ sets — literate, warm, and built for late-night rooms exactly this size.

Our resident DJ Prom Night holds things down on home turf. Shaq grew up in Aarhus, raised on the South African record collection his parents brought with them when they fled apartheid — soul, funk, jazz, disco, hip hop — and that inheritance runs through everything he plays. His sets span Italo house, afro-house, sleazy disco cuts, acid, and techno, held together by a sensibility he describes as nostalgic, groovy, and sparkly. He's a Jolene regular, and it shows — he knows how this room breathes, how it opens up late, when to push. Streams for HÖR Berlin, radio on Rinse FM and Refuge Worldwide, and a run of Danish festival appearances at Roskilde, Distortion, and Northside have sharpened what was already a distinctive voice. Tonight he holds the anchor.
