ÄÄNIAALTO presents emerging artists working across experimental sound and audiovisual art. Now celebrating its 10th edition, the student-run festival reflects on the subtle forms of distance embedded in contemporary life through the theme "Smooth Alienation"
Alienation is often imagined as rupture: disconnection, a visible break between the self/world. Yet, it can appear frictionless. Streams of information, sound and image flow continuously. Comfort becomes inseparable from numbness.
What happens when we grow used to what is broken? What forms of listening emerge from fragmented attention, mediated presence and normalized instability?
ÄÄNIAALTO X explores the theme through live performances, audiovisual works and sonic environments spanning ambient, noise, live electronics, and interdisciplinary performances.
