Yuzong Chen is a final-year PhD student at Cornell Tech in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, under the guidance of Prof. Mohamed Abdelfattah. His research focuses on Algorithm-Hardware Co-Design for Machine Learning Acceleration, particularly in quantization numerics, FPGA architectures, and in-memory processing. Notably, he was acknowledged as a ML and Systems Rising Star in 2026 by MLCommons and was a finalist for the 2024 Qualcomm Innovation Fellowship.
Presentation Overview:
Yuzong will delve into his research on Efficient Algorithm-Hardware Co-Design Methodology for Quantized LLM Acceleration. As silicon technology nears the end of the Moore’s Law era, hardware specialization is crucial for the advancement of machine learning applications powered by deep neural networks (DNNs). He will explore the disparity between the rapid growth of large language models (LLMs) and the slow increase in compute performance and memory capacity, highlighting the bottleneck for deploying LLMs in constrained environments. His research aims to bridge this gap through enhanced FPGA compute throughput and innovative ASIC designs.
