An Introduction to Maintaining Sewing Machines LONDON
Join us for a one-day course on Maintaining Sewing Machines led by Neil from Coles Sewing Centre and Paul Boyd! 🧵✨
Summary:
This course is perfect for technicians looking to cut down on departmental costs by mastering the basics of sewing machine maintenance. It's also a valuable opportunity for teachers without technical support to enhance their understanding of machine upkeep, ensuring optimal performance and quality output.
What You Will Learn:
- Key health and safety concerns when operating sewing machines
- Techniques to optimize performance through proper tension, threads, and needles
- Hands-on experience with machine disassembly, cleaning, and reassembly
- Strategies for maintaining machines using parts from broken units and discerning when it's time to replace a machine
Participants are encouraged to bring a sewing machine from their department for a personalized experience. If this isn’t feasible, a machine may be provided upon request (limited availability).
While this course serves as a fundamental introduction, a full servicing program will still be necessary for departments, but consistent maintenance can substantially lower costs and frequency of service calls. You’ll also receive helpful resources to take home!
Outcomes:
You will be able to:
- Perform basic servicing and repairs of sewing machines
- Assess sewing machine usage within your department and identify common issues
- Establish a servicing and repair plan to maintain machines efficiently
Refreshments will be provided; participants should bring their own lunch. Important: Don't forget to bring your original hard copy of the enhanced DBS form and a photo ID to the venue.
