“At Heart…A Westerner: Theodore Roosevelt’s Formation in the West”
Join us for an enlightening presentation on "At Heart…A Westerner: Theodore Roosevelt’s Formation in the West" by Helen Lewis! 🎤
In the beautiful Betty Strong Auditorium, Helen Lewis will delve into the incredible journey of Theodore Roosevelt, the celebrated leader of the Rough Riders and the 26th President of the United States. 🌄 Roosevelt credited his robust character and endurance to his transformative experiences as a ranch owner and hunter in the Dakotas.
But the young Theodore Roosevelt took on many roles in the West, shaping not just his public service future but also his ideals of manhood. With unwavering courage, the urban youth from New York, often referred to as “Four Eyes,” emerged as a cowboy respected across the West! 🦬
Helen will share captivating photos and narratives, including many sourced from Roosevelt’s own writings, illustrating his journey from a city dweller to a prominent Dakota ranchman.
Helen Lewis, a retired instructor from Western Iowa Tech Community College, has taught courses in English and Humanities. With a passion for westerns, women artists, medieval mysteries, and even square dancing, she has a vast wealth of knowledge to share! 🌼
