Join BHC Trustee Elam Stoltzfus, Executive Director of the Nicholas Stoltzfus Homestead, on an immersive journey through the earliest Amish settlements. Discover the intriguing story that began with the arrival of Jacob Burkey in 1733, leading us to Northkill—the first Amish settlement in North America, established in 1737.
✨ Highlights include:
- The Hochstetler Massacre (1757): A key event during the French and Indian War that symbolizes Amish faith and nonviolence.
- Degler’s Chest Incident (1752): A violent confrontation shedding light on the challenges faced by early settlers.
This guided tour offers profound insights into the early Amish way of life, their resilience, and the enduring influence of their peaceful beliefs on American history.
