Bomba 'En Casa de Chema' Plena
Buen día Guerreros/as/x! 🌞 Join us for the first summer monthly BomPlenazo at La Casita de Chema! 🎉
Everyone is invited to come together for an evening filled with community, delicious food, cultural exchange, and the vibrant spirit of Bomba and Plena. Bring your family, friends, and energy for a joyful Jangueo rooted in music, learning, and connection. 🎶❤️
La Casita de Chema was built on a reclaimed vacant lot during the urban decay of the late 1970s, designed after traditional Puerto Rican casitas—community houses made from scrap materials, symbolizing self-reliance. Chema Soto and Bronx locals transformed this space into a social hub celebrating Puerto Rican identity through music, dance, and gardening. 🌱
Chema’s daughter, @desseree.s, continues to honor her father's legacy, making the site a center for Bomba and Plena, Afro-Puerto Rican musical traditions intertwined with resistance and storytelling. 🥁✨
Regular workshops, performances, and festivals welcome neighbors of all ages to join in. Help us celebrate La Casita and all those who contributed to its legacy!
