Breakfast: Local Manufacturing for Deep Tech
Calling all deep tech and hard tech startups! Join us at the Activate office in midtown for a discussion of the local manufacturing landscape.
The way things are made in this country is changing. Online services are making it easier than ever to go from idea to prototype and early pilots. Drones and humanoid robots are making forays into the market. Imaginations run wild on topics like physical AI, dark factories, and reindustrialization. And yet!...
There is a wealth of history and deep manufacturing knowledge dotted throughout the local landscape, even in NYC. Steinway has been making pianos locally since the 1870s. PE Guerin has been forging metal in the Village since 1892. Any future of manufacturing in this country where supply chains are resilient and stable requires a preservation of this type of knowledge, a trained and skilled workforce, and robust connections between high tech startups and traditional manufacturing.
Join us at the Activate Office to chat with:
Stacey Weismiller, President and CEO, American Manufacturing Futures Institute (AMFI)
Miquela Craytor, Interim Executive Director, SBIDC | Board Member, AMFI
Both of these women have been deeply embedded in the manufacturing ecosystem across roles spanning government, economic development, and start-up programming. Have a bagel and join a discussion on the state of the ecosystem, the benefits and pitfalls of start-up/local shop engagements, and the future of the region more broadly.
