BROOKLYN BREATHES
BROOKLYN BREATHES is a participatory civic ritual that transforms breath into a collective choir: part ritual, part sonic experience, part communal remembering. Created for a culture navigating both heartbreak and hope, it asks a simple question:
What becomes possible when we remember the radical meaning of conspire – to breathe together?
Guided by rhythm, breath, voice, silence, and collective attention, participants become both audience and ensemble, transforming respiration into a living collective instrument.
Developed through hundreds of group experiences and refined in intimate settings, this Summer Solstice gathering marks the first public expression of an evolving body of work exploring breath as social practice – how rhythm, respiration, and shared attention can foster connection, regulation, and belonging.
Presented by LAROTA and Grand Street Healing Project as the culminating public offering of our inaugural Healing Arts Residency with practitioner Sadia Bruce, this immersive gathering invites us into a shared field of rhythm, regulation, and collective presence that feels increasingly rare, and increasingly necessary.
SADIA BRUCE is a teacher of body, breath, and spirit; a contemplative conceptual artist; and a lifelong student of the unseen. Her work centers what she calls Public Acts of Tenderness: participatory experiences that explore connection, presence, and collective feeling through breath, rhythm, sound, ritual, and shared attention. Working at the intersection of contemplative practice, social ritual, and cultural imagination, she creates experiences that invite people into deeper relationship with themselves, one another, and the living world.
Join us for a public act of tenderness.
