THE LOOPERS is an exciting work-in-progress exploring various street dance styles including breaking, hip hop, house, locking, krumping, and popping. This performance brings to light the historical significance of street dance as an outlet for aggression and frustration against oppressive social norms, serving as a constructive and community-building medium.
In Aloun Marchal's new experimental dance and music performance, contemporary perceptions of violence and resistance are boldly explored. The journey begins outdoors in the bustling urban environment, with two skilled artists dominating the public space through an expressive display of song, dance, and music.
As the performance transitions indoors, the atmosphere becomes intimate and candid. Here, the artists share their personal reflections on street dance and its pivotal role in their lives, as they examine their perceptions and relationships with violence. The audience is invited to participate in a forum for questions and discussion—exploring the transformative potential of art to convert cycles of violence into looping dance.
