About the event

Step right up for Fishwives—a riotous comedy cabaret that’s smutty, feminist, historical, and dare we say, hysterical!

If Chaucer had a potty-mouthed sister with a vendetta against the patriarchy, this is the show she’d create. Written in verse, Fishwives exudes a gleeful irreverence reminiscent of Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes, bringing the forgotten heroines of history onto center stage—louder, bolder, and far less ladylike than you might remember!

Penned and performed by the seasoned comedy poet Abi Unwin-Smith from RCSSD, this hour of anarchic entertainment beautifully fuses poetry, storytelling, and movement with the exquisite chaos of vaudeville. Prepare yourself for stripping suffragettes, scandalous monarchs, and a touch of persecuted pudenda—no petticoat will go unruffled!

After a decade gracing the UK and Australian comedy and poetry circuits, Fishwives bursts forth as a full-throttle showcase: a bawdy mash-up of brains, bosoms, and belly laughs. In a time when women's rights still precariously hang in the balance, this show wields laughter as both a weapon and a balm.

So gird your loins, ladies and gents! These lusty bawds have fascinating stories to share—and it’s about bloody time we listened.
