About the event
Join local activist orchestra PROTESTRA for a powerful concert titled “Founding Mothers” at the St. Paul and St. Andrew United Methodist Church. This unique program showcases both contemporary and historic works by American women composers, celebrating their contributions to music and society.
🌟 Highlights of the Concert:
- World Premieres: Experience the debut of Matriarch by Danielle Jagelski, honoring the wisdom of indigenous female leadership.
- YELLFIRE by JL Marlor, combining voice and electric guitar, addresses themes of female rage and transformation.
- Conclude with Symphony No. 4 by Florence Price, the first African-American woman to have a work premiered by a major American orchestra.
This concert is part of the Recomposing America initiative, which aims to redefine the narratives of American history through art.
