About the event

Rights of Nature is both a philosophical concept – an invitation to rethink our relationship with the natural world – and a legal response to unprecedented environmental harm and biodiversity loss.
The degradation of natural ecosystems is not simply an ecological matter; it has profound consequences for businesses and societies, reshaping political priorities and international relations.
Building on The Rights of Nature Symposium at LCAW25, this event brings together experts in environmental law, policy and sustainable finance to explore how a “Rights of Nature” approach can be incorporated into existing legal, regulatory and financial frameworks to strengthen environmental protection.
With a foreword from Heather Buchanan, Director, APPG on Sustainable Finance, and insights from Paul Powlesland (Lawyers for Nature), Mumta Ito (Nature's Rights), Emma Montlake (Environmental Law Foundation), Paula Pagniez (Executive Director Climate Risk & Resilience at Howden Re) and Susan Twining (Chief Land Use Policy Adviser, Country and Land Business Association) and Polly Montoneri (Partner, Forsters LLP).
A Theory of Change developed by two working groups formed following the RoN symposium:
Law & Policy group chaired by Jemima Coleman (supported by The Legal Sustainability Alliance)
Nature Finance & Risk group chaired by Imogen O’Rorke (supported by Achill Legal)
