🎸 What is Jug & String Band Music?
Delve into the rich history of Black String Band Music, created by Southern Blacks, which precedes both Blues and Jazz. These bands feature a delightful array of stringed instruments such as guitar, banjo, bass, violin, mandolin, and ukulele, presenting songs perfect for dancing, ballads, and humorous tunes!
The Jug Band sound incorporates jugs, washboards, and kazoos, providing a unique auditory experience that captivated audiences during the early recording industry days. Despite challenges, the genre thrived during the Folk Music Revival of the 1960s and continues to resonate with music lovers today!
These sessions are open to Intermediate and above players. Bring a song to lead—just make sure to sing loud enough for everyone to enjoy! We may also share insights into ensemble performance to foster cohesive music-making.
With over 20 years of experience, Papa Ernie Vega has graced stages like the Newport Folk Festival and the Jug Band Jubilee, making this an opportunity you won't want to miss!
