Insider Tour: Prince Hall Masonic Lodge
Join The Georgia Trust for a captivating tour of Prince Hall, one of Atlanta's most significant and historic buildings! 🏙️ This exclusive experience explores the rich history of this architectural gem located on Atlanta's renowned Auburn Avenue.
Constructed in 1937 under the vision of John Wesley Dobbs, Prince Hall is known as the former home of WERD Radio, the first Black-owned radio station in the United States. 📻 Additionally, it once housed the prestigious Madame C.J. Walker beauty school, honoring America's first self-made female millionaire. 🌺
Most notably, this iconic building served as the headquarters for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), where distinguished Civil Rights leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr., Andrew Young, Ella Baker, and Ralph David Abernathy spearheaded campaigns that transformed the nation. ✊
In 2025, a comprehensive restoration of Prince Hall was completed, which rejuvenated its masonry, windows, and other significant elements, coupled with a brand new roof. 🏗️ The building now serves the Prince Hall Masons and other Masonic groups, while the National Park Service occupies the first floor and basement to offer public interpretation.
Today, Prince Hall stands as a proud symbol and a vital anchor along one of Atlanta's most historic streets. 🌍
