You are warmly invited to a captivating performance set in an imperial space embraced by lush plant life, where movement, sound, and space intertwine beyond human perception. In Layers of Kin, performers engage in a dance of kinship with nature, featuring elements like moss, yarrow, clover, and oak, to delve into the intricate relationship between humans and the more-than-human realm.
The choreography unfolds in intimate proximity to the audience, emphasizing attentiveness and shared presence. As the performers move together, the work prioritizes gentle accumulation over grand spectacle, revealing patterns of connection, resilience, and coexistence. Together, they create a post-imperial ballroom utopia.
Choreographed by Angela Vitovec and co-presented by Toronto Dance Theatre, this piece continues Vitovec’s exploration of plant consciousness and interdependence, following her earlier works, Sammal/Moss and Mossbelly.
