About the Quartet:
Founded in early 2024, the Matthew Liebeck Quartett is an international assembly of talent based in Berlin, led by the visionary trumpeter and composer Matthew Liebeck from London, UK. Drawing inspiration from the innovative style of the 1960s Miles Davis Quintet and Herbie Hancock’s legendary Blue Note records, our quartet merges compelling melodic writing with dynamic rhythmic structures. 🎵

A hallmark of our sound is the fusion of drum and bass aesthetics within a jazz framework, influenced by pioneers like Photek, Dillinja, and Source Direct. This rich tapestry of sound shapes our approach to groove, momentum, and form.

With members hailing from the UK, Germany, and Japan, our lineup encourages a vibrant and open musical language, emphasizing collective improvisation and deep ensemble interplay.
