🌟 Join us on May 30 for an enchanting live transmission of El Último Sueño de Frida y Diego, the spectacular first opera by American composer Gabriela Lena Frank. This magical-realist portrayal of the iconic artists Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera is brought to life with a libretto by Pulitzer Prize winner Nilo Cruz. 🎭

In a captivating twist on the Orpheus and Euridice myth, the opera unveils Frida, beautifully sung by the renowned mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard, emerging from the underworld on Día de los Muertos to reunite with her lover, Diego, performed by baritone Carlos Álvarez. Their turbulent yet passionate love story unfolds, capturing both joy and sorrow as they prepare for their final farewell.

🎶 Conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin, this Met-premiere staging features a “richly imagined score” that bursts with vibrant originality, as noted by The New Yorker and Los Angeles Times. Inspired by the magnificent artworks of Frida and Diego, this new production is directed and choreographed by Deborah Colker.
