Mingus Big Band at The Pocket Jazz Club
Get ready for an unforgettable evening with the Mingus Big Band! 🎺✨ This exceptional 14-piece ensemble passionately honors the legendary American composer, bassist, and activist, Charles Mingus. Founded by Sue Mingus, the band showcases innovative arrangements of Mingus's timeless compositions, bringing the larger orchestral format he envisioned to life.
The dynamic structure of the band allows for profound explorations and fluid interpretations of Mingus’s music, fostering individual artistic expression—as Mingus himself championed in his famous Jazz Workshop projects.
With a rotating cast of New York City's top established and emerging musicians, the Mingus Big Band continues to be one of the most inventive and spontaneous groups in the world. 🎤 Nominated for seven GRAMMYs, including the recent nomination for The Charles Mingus Centennial Sessions in 2022, and boasting a win for Live at Jazz Standard in 2011, this band carries forward its storied legacy.
Join us for the continuation of the legendary Mingus Mondays residency at The Pocket for what promises to be the best Monday night in NYC! 🌟
