Elektorni lands in Berlin in association with Oulu Music Video Festival!

First up is a double-billing of Sähkö (1995) and Leftfield and Obscure Finnish Music Videos at Babylon, continued by a club night at OHM with a night of musical exploration from ambient and experimental beginnings to varied dancefloor oriented club music.

Illyana is one of the key figures in the music scene of Oulu, Northern Finland. They have been organising clubs and events as well as performing and deejaying since the 2000s. You can also catch Illyana playing at this year’s edition of the much-hyped Solstice Festival.

*** ILPO VÄISÄNEN*** 23:00
Ilpo Väisänen is one half of pioneering Finnish electronic music duo Pan Sonic. Even as a veteran artist, Ilpo Väisänen keeps on pushing musical boundaries, and we are excited and proud to present Ilpo’s solo live set at OHM.

*** ROLANDO SIMMONS *** 00:00
Supreme level acid, and freaky but well-crafted rhythms. Rolando Simmons' production is emotionally undeniable and musically irresistable. The prolific artist has releases out on labels like 030303, Furthur Electronix and Analogical Force.

*** JUHANI OIVO *** 01:00
Elektorni label head Oivo is musically omnivorous and is happiest deejaying with various musical styles, on vinyl. You can feel his underlying hip-hop background haunting his electronic music sets and affinity for dub music in the abundance of low-end, percussion and reverberated soundscapes, as well as his dubplate exclusives.

Mesak (one half of pioneering electro duo Mr Velcro Fastener) brings his machine live set to OHM. Top-level, mind-melting club music of the highest order. An unrelenting explorer of new sounds, Mesak has evolved his sound across the decades. His newest musical amalgamation defies categorisation, but one could throw in words like electro, d&b and dub. Finely crafted research! A new Elektorni 12” of this new material on Elektorni Records is out in May!

Fresh off their release on Short Span (also don’t forget to check last year’s Elektorni release!), Århus legend Picture steps in the arena with a b2b of off-kilter techno, with another key name from the Safe crew, Mandee.

MOVIE PROGRAMMING @ BABYLON

• The night kicks off at 20:00 with a screening of cult movie Sähkö (1995). A unique snapshot in time of the Finnish record label Sähkö Recordings. Rare footage of artists like Mika Vainio, Ilpo Väisänen, Tommi Grönlund and Mono Junk keep the audience captivated for the 45min running time.

• At 21:00 a special curation of rare Finnish music videos 1994–2025. The screening leans towards rare electronic Finnish music videos, but you will also see Finnish tango, dub, early hip-hop and more, interpreted to an audiovisual medium by visionary directors. Many of these videos cannot be found on Youtube, and this might be your once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see them!

The screenings are organised by Oulu Music Video Festival to mark the occasion of launhing the OMVF European Music Video Competition at filmfreeway .com/OMVF, open for submissions until June 8!
