PANDAjazz: Wooli DUO + Elena Kakaliagou SOLO
Join us for an enchanting evening featuring two distinct approaches to improvisation and the reformation of traditional forms! ✨
Wooli DUO
Fan-Qi Wu — Pipa
Michael Lee Sørenmo — Drums
Wooli (無理 / 우리) is an avant-garde folk duo born from the collaboration between Taiwanese pipa virtuoso Fan-Qi Wu and Norwegian percussionist Michael Lee Sørenmo. Since their debut in Oslo, they have graced stages across Europe, including notable performances at the Vestafor, Aarhus Jazz, Babel Sound, and (s)Nodi festivals. Their self-titled album was incredibly well-received upon its release on March 13, 2026. Wooli's soundscape harmoniously blends East Asian traditional and folk music with the spontaneity of free improvisation, treating tradition as a living entity that evolves through listening, dialogue, and a collective curiosity for sound. 🎵
Elena Kakaliagou SOLO
Elena Kakaliagou — Horn
Hailing from Greece and Austria, Elena Kakaliagou has carved out her own expressive language on the French horn. From the lyrical and melancholic to the fierce and almost still, her performances captivate audiences. Classically educated in Athens, Graz, and at the Sibelius Academy, she has been based in Berlin since 2010. Her solo work explores the realms between tonality and noise, song and percussive sound, fluidly navigating through microtonality with a unique warmth and timing. A member of Zinc & Copper and zeitkratzer, she is also a co-founder of several ensembles, including Rank Ensemble, the trio Para, and the duo Nabelóse. Elena's listening tastes encompass contemporary composition, free improvisation, folk, and jazz—embracing a boundless exploration of sound. 🎺
