Petro Live: Šimanský Niesner

Guitarists Jakub Šimanský and Tomáš Niesner made their collaborative debut with Tance neznámé, released by the Stoned to Death label in 2019. The two musicians had previously spent almost a decade playing together in the noise-rock band Unna.

In 2016, Šimanský embarked on a solo career with his debut album Face to Face Against American Primitivism in Eastern Europe Vol. I. Soon afterwards, Šimanský and Niesner drew on their long-standing musical chemistry and began working on a joint record. Its release was followed by a period of intensive touring and the writing of new material.

Their music is marked by a wide sonic palette and a distinctive approach to tuning, rhythm, and mantra-like repetition, as well as a strong sense of melody. In this respect, the duo draws on the tradition of American primitivism, Czech folk, and influences from Eastern music.

In 2020, one of their tracks appeared on Imaginational Anthem Vol. X, a compilation released by the American label Tompkins Square. Šimanský and Niesner subsequently released their second full-length album, Všechno Dobré. Their latest album, Jako doma, came out in September 2023, and they are currently working on new recordings.
