Rapasa Nyatrapsa Otieno - Live at Listen to the World

Join us for an extraordinary evening with Kenyan producer and multidisciplinary artist Rapasa Nyatrapsa Otieno! 🎤

At Listen to the World, this event promises an engaging fusion of music, storytelling, visual art, and movement, highlighting the beauty of traditional East African culture in a contemporary context.

Rapasa, a recent performer at Wigmore Hall’s African Concert Series, collaborates with renowned groups like Chineke! Orchestra and Royal Northern Sinfonia. Beyond performing, he is a passionate community musician, dedicated to using music to foster wellbeing and connection.

The star of the evening will be the nyatiti, an eight-string lyre from the Luo community of Western Kenya. Enhanced by the sounds of ankle bells (gara) and a toe ring (oduong’o), the nyatiti serves as a captivating “one-man band,” integral to ceremonies of birth, marriage, passage, and remembrance.
