RELATIONAL STATES LAB #01- Touch as Trigger

About the event

Join us for RELATIONAL STATES LAB #01: Touch as Trigger, where we delve into the fascinating world of movement through TOUCH! 🤲✨ This lab focuses on touch not just as a means of communication or expression but as a vital trigger that initiates movement and reorganizes the body in real time.

Incorporating Contact Improvisation, we aim to uncover the effects of reducing interpretation—transforming touch into a direct impulse for action. Instead of engaging in negotiation or conversation, we’ll explore a more immediate cause-and-effect dynamic: touch → movement.

Key Questions We’ll Explore:

  • What shifts occur when we limit choices and follow instinct?
  • How does timing supersede intention?
  • What types of coordination, momentum, and shared experiences can emerge?

Participants will engage in structured improvisations, transitioning from solo exercises to duet and group contexts, progressively building more complex relational fields. Our focus areas include:

  • Clarity of physical response
  • Sensitivity to timing and initiation
  • Acting on impulse without interpretation

This lab is part of an ongoing exploration into relational states within Contact Improvisation and ensemble dance practices, examining how we organize attention, action, and connections in shared movements.
