🌍 Commonwealth Short Story Prize winners
📚 About our sessions
Please read the stories listed below before attending. For every story we will start with summarizing the story so that we have it fresh in our minds. We will share our opinions about the story, which parts we liked and which we didn't like, and we will discuss any and all aspects of the story and the writing.
📖 About this session
This week we are reading three of the five regional winners of this year's Commonwealth Short Story Prize, hosted by the Commonwealth Foundation and originally published in Granta. We will discuss the individual stories as well as amateur fiction and the concept of writing contests more generally.
🧽 Me and Ma’am by Lisa-Anne Julien, South Africa (4,000 words)
🐍 The Serpent in the Grove by Jamir Nazir, Trinidad and Tobago (3,500 words)
🏰 The Bastion’s Shadow by John Edward DeMicoli, Malta (3,000 words)
After the discussion feel free to stick around, socialize, and make new friends. ☕
