Space in Schools - Science and Dance in Your Classroom
Imagine your students transforming into the solar system by modeling orbits or understanding the Sun through shadow exploration! Join us for a dynamic workshop where space science meets the art of dance and embodied learning.
We're excited to welcome Joanne and Ruth from the University of Lancashire, who have collaborated on the Into Our Skies: Space in Schools initiative. They will walk you through the fundamentals of dance, providing you with practical tools that connect essential scientific concepts—like motion, gravity, and celestial phenomena—with physical expression.
This workshop is perfect for educators in upper elementary and middle school settings and requires no prior dance experience! The session embraces an inclusive, cross-curricular approach that intertwines science with the arts.
You’ll gain strategies for executing the Space in Schools curriculum and learn to craft your own engaging dance-based lessons across various subjects, all while ensuring accessibility for every learner. By the end, you'll leave with concrete resources and inspiration to make space science both dynamic and memorable for your students.
Important Notes:
- Expect to move—please wear comfortable clothing and sensible shoes, and remember to bring water! 💧
- We encourage everyone interested in the curriculum to join. For any inquiries or restrictions, feel free to reach out to Brian Levine, Program Director at STEMteachersNYC, at Brian@stemteachersnyc.org.
As part of our Midsummer Marymount Minis day, this engaging workshop will take place from 9 AM to 12 PM, followed by a film screening and lunch! 🍽️
A huge thank you to the University of Lancashire for their generous support, allowing us to offer this workshop at a reduced price.
